Her middle name "Chrishell" which is an evocative portmanteau, was an omen of the bizarre circumstances in the birthing process: her mother was born at an Shell station. Chris, an attendant assisted in the birth of her child. Strause asserts that the rumor about her birth is fabricated. Strause told Strause that her mother had car trouble and she parked at the station. She was in pre-labor while waiting in the station. The attendant helped her to an hospital. Strause was born in an in-hospital. Her mother wasn't aware that Strause was pregnant. Strause split with her father, who was half Japanese and half Spanish. Jeff is her stepfather. Chrishell Strause was forced to stay in a tent for one year during middle school. Strause described washing her hair in the river and taking food stamps to conceal her identity from her classmates. When she was 10 years old, her parents "struggled with mental and addiction health." Strause then became a member of the Worldwide Church of God. Strause says her mother was a free spirit and self-righteous. Her mother did not have a steady job.
