Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of United States. She is also the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and also as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate.
